Because this is what I think about at work.

So I work as an editor at a financial media company.

There have been many, many times when I've come across some financial term and thought, "Wow, that would make a good name for a horse."

Which is your favorite? (If you're curious, I've linked them to their Investopedia definitions, but I didn't want to bore those who just want to look at random horse pictures from Wikimedia Commons and fantasize about names.)

What about the rest of you? Does oddly specific work terminology inspire you to think of horse names? Or am I just that nerdy?

  1. Ooh, I like Called Away and Volatility Spike!

I'd get a kick out of soil themed names, but no announcer would like trying to figure out how to pronounce Oxyaquenthapudalf.

  3. I guess it helps that the expense and risk of horses goes along with money-related terms :)

  4. I like these names. I used to ride a horse whose named (Negozzjant) meant Businessman or Negotiator

  5. Haha, awesome! Love the Welsh Cob. I'm with L, my work terminology would make the worst horse names. VMware? Boot Storm? My least favorite marketing term ever, "The Cloud"?

    1. Riding on a Cloud? Riding in the Cloud? Hmm. But yeah, VMware...not so much.

  6. Isn't it a bit pessimistic to call your horse Depreciating Asset? :D

    1. Well most of them are! If your investment is worth less as it ages, and requires hundreds in maintenance every month, yet doesn't bring in enough revenue to cover its costs...bad investment from a financial standpoint!
